The World Land Trust has helped purchase and protect over 350,000 acres of rainforest and other threatened wildlife habitats worldwide. You can help us save even more by sponsoring an acre of rainforest for just £50.

Current Projects:

Brazil: REGUA Project
The World Land Trust played an important part in establishing a reserve in the Atlantic rainforest of Brazil in the year 2000. The Atlantic rainforest is one of the most important eco-regions in the world, but only 7% of the original area remains, and it is becoming increasingly fragmented. The Trust is therefore raising funds for Reserva Ecologica De Guapi Assu (REGUA) in order to increase the reserve and protect the Atlantic rainforest against further losses.

Ecuador: Tropical Forest Project
The Tropical Forest project helps safeguard Ecuador’s diverse wildlife in an area where over 80% of the tropical rainforests have already been destroyed, leaving many species globally threatened. The project protects critically important habitats for many of Ecuador’s rarest bird species, as well as a wide variety of other animals such as Jaguar and Howler Monkey. There are currently seven reserves, all managed with the support and involvement of local communities.

Ecuador: Carbon Sequestration Projects (Carbon Balanced)
As part of the Carbon Balanced project the WLT reforests areas of rainforest previously cleared. This provides two-fold benefits: regenerating important wildlife habitat and removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Individuals and businesses can contribute to the WLT’s conservation projects by offsetting carbon dioxide emissions that they are unable to avoid.

India: Wild Lands Elephant Corridor Project
The Wild Lands Elephant Corridor project helps save an important population of Indian elephants by preventing forest fragmentation which seriously threaten the elephants survival. The corridor links together two wildlife reserves and not only provides a safe passage for elephants, but also a haven for other wildlife.

India and the Philippines: Reef & Mangrove Projects
The Reef & Mangrove Appeal assists the recovery of mangroves and restoration of coral reefs, both of which are incredibly diverse ecosystems with important roles in protecting the coasts against the forces of the sea. Two projects are currently under way: Mangrove replanting in the Philippines and coral replanting and restoration in India.

Paraguay: The Sid Templer Reserve
The Sid Templer Reserve is a unique nature reserve on the frontiers of the Chaco-Pantanal, an area of seasonally flooded grasslands and home to the three “giants”: Giant Antaeater, Giant Otter and Giant Armadillo. It is also one of the best places in the world to see Jaguars. The Chaco-Pantanal grasslands are very important for wildlife but are severly threatened by habitat destruction and pollution.

UK: Kites Hill Reserve
Kites Hill Reserve covers over 40 acres of fallow grasslands and native woodland. Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the reserve is situated next to a stand of beech woodland designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. For any supporter donating £150 or more to the WLT’s Tropical Forest Project in Ecuador the World Land Trust will plant a tree in the Kites Hill reserve for free, on their behalf.
